ARTIST STATEMENT
I would like to make it clear that art hasn’t always been a part of my life. I haven’t always loved the process of taking a photograph whether its digital or film photography. I didn’t always value the creative moments found in between the beginning of an idea and the final result. And I didn’t always have this passion and burning desire to learn as much as I can and experiment with new ideas in this creative realm. I was passionless, had no desires and nothing to turn to. However, it was my faith in God and many nights spent praying that saved me and introduced me to photography in a beautiful way.
This unique background of mine has led my work to be heavily influenced by my faith in God and the gift He has given me to see things not only as what they are but what they have the potential to be. This amazing connection between art and God enables me to create freely with no boundaries, no expectations and no categorical thinking. This categorical thinking would otherwise box my ideas into a specific category thus limiting the effect they might have on the viewer.
As I continue to grow both spiritually and creatively so will the art. I believe it is impossible to see growth and maturation in the art without seeing it first in the person. This perspective helps to motivate me to experiment not only in photography but in different creative outlets.
My name is Darien Henson and I love to create.
